Advertising and Download Safety

Last updated: July 3, 2026

Hubkub publishes software reviews, download guides, comparisons, and how-to articles. This page explains how we keep advertising, affiliate links, and download calls-to-action separate so readers do not confuse ads with official download paths.

Core safety principles

  • Hubkub does not intentionally place ads that imitate download buttons, operating system prompts, file warnings, or navigation controls.
  • Download guides should direct readers to the official vendor, project, app store, or repository whenever possible.
  • Sponsored or affiliate relationships must not remove safety warnings, license caveats, installer cautions, or fair discussion of alternatives.
  • If an advertisement or third-party creative appears misleading, unsafe, or too close to a download action, it should be blocked, moved, or reported.

How download links should be labelled

Download links should make clear whether they point to an official site, vendor page, project repository, app store, documentation page, or another trusted source. Hubkub does not host installers directly unless a page explicitly says otherwise.

Generic installer wording can be confusing when ads are nearby. Hubkub prefers labels such as “Official website,” “Official download page,” “Project repository,” or “Vendor documentation” when linking out.

Advertising placement standards

  • Avoid ads immediately adjacent to software download calls-to-action when placement could cause accidental clicks.
  • Avoid sticky, pop-up, or interstitial ads that block core content before a reader can evaluate the page.
  • Avoid ad styling that resembles Hubkub navigation, official software buttons, warning dialogs, or file-download prompts.
  • Keep trust pages, privacy information, affiliate disclosures, and contact options easy to find.

Reader reporting

If you see an advertisement, affiliate link, or download instruction that seems unsafe or misleading, report it through the Contact page. Please include the page URL, device type, screenshot if possible, and a short description of what looked wrong.

These standards support a safer reading experience and reduce the risk that advertising or monetization harms reader trust.

Practical placement rules

Advertising should not make a reader unsure which element is editorial guidance and which element is paid placement. This is especially important on software pages, where an accidental click can send a reader to the wrong installer, bundle, mirror, or offer.

When a page discusses software, Hubkub prefers descriptive outbound labels such as “Official website,” “Official documentation,” “Project repository,” or “Vendor support page.” These labels are clearer than generic promotional phrases and help readers understand what they are about to open.

  • Do not place ads so close to an official-source link that the two can be confused.
  • Do not style editorial links to imitate operating-system alerts, vendor buttons, or security warnings.
  • Do not use countdown language or forced urgency around software installation decisions.
  • Review mobile layouts because ad spacing can look very different on smaller screens.

How readers can protect themselves

Before installing software, pause and check whether the link points to an official vendor, developer, app store, documentation, or repository page. Avoid clicking large graphic buttons from ads if you are trying to reach a specific product source.

If an advertisement appears misleading, unsafe, or too close to an important software link, readers can report the page through the Contact page. Include the page URL, device type, browser, country if relevant, and a screenshot if possible.
